Ras Al Khaimah, Jan 1: H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, opened the Heritage Village of Masafiri at Rifah in Ras Al Khaimah today.
The Heritage Village, set up by UAE national, Mohammed Mattar Al Masafiri, showcases the rich heritage and culture of the UAE. The Village, consisting of a main building and numerous tents including models of traditional houses, unravels the country’s past through its large collection of photographs, antiques, arms and household items.
Speaking after touring the heritage village, Sheikh Saud said that the culture and heritage of the country should be considered an invaluable asset which should be preserved for the posterity. “The history and heritage of the country provide deep insight to the young generation on how hard work and entrepreneurship can help script successes in nation building,” he added.
Mohammed Mattar Al Masafiri said that the heritage village was set up with the objective of providing the young generation an opportunity to learn about their past, its traditions and the values that guided the life of their ancestors. He also announced the handing over of the heritage village to the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
The heritage village featured a photography exhibition on the life and times of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It also had an exhibition which delineated the growth and transformation of the UAE- tracing the time from being Trucial States to the formation of the United Arab Emirates and the unprecedented development march which followed. Rare photographs dating back as far as 1905 were presented as part of the exhibition.
The inaugural function was also attended by Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Chairman of RAK Municipality, and a number of officials.
